12 Bible Verses About Temptation

Bible verses about temptation. The temptation is not separate from our life. It is a part of our life. Every human being gets tempted in their life. But one shouldn’t fall into temptation instead overcome it. There is always a way to come out of the lure. The inspired word of God still being a source of overcoming temptation. The only thing one should do is to know the right weapon to use and overcome it. Here are twelve bible verses about temptation.

  1.  Satan imperceptibly tempted Eve.

Genesis 3: 1-4. “And the Serpent was more crafty than any animal of the filed which Jehovah Elohim had made.  It said to the woman, is it even so, that God has said, Ye, shall not eat of every tree of the garden? The woman said to the Serpent, we may eat of the fruit of the tree of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree that is in the midst of the garden, God has said, Ye shall, ye shall not eat of it, and ye shall not touch it, lest ye die. And the Serpent said to the woman; ye will not certainly die; “

If God says something not to do, we should not do the things. If we don’t obey God’s command and do as we, then the consequences will always be terrible. Devil in the form of Serpent came and tempted the woman which God told not to do. In the end, Serpent won and made the woman to disobey God’s command.

  1. When Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife to commit adultery, he refused to sin against God.

Genesis 39:9-10. “there is none greater than I; neither has he withheld anything from me but thee, because of thou art his wife; and how should I do this great wickedness and sin against God? And it came to pass as she spoke to Joseph day by day and he hearkened not to her, to lie with her and to be with her.”

Joseph fears God, and that helped him to overcome the situation. He restricts himself from sinning against God. God tells the same. Fear of God should always be in our life. We must restrain ourselves from wickedness.

  1. The devil still lurks around like a lion, seeking whom he may devour.

1 Peter 5:8-9. “ Be vigilant, watch your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walks about seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the selfsame sufferings are accomplished in your brotherhood which is in the world.”

  1. God tempts no one. Because of their desire, each one is tempted and dragged away and enticed.

James 1: 13-15. “Let no man, being tempted, say, I am tempted of God. For God cannot be tempted by evil things, and himself tempt no one. But every one is tempted, drawn away, and enticed by his own lust; then lust, having conceived, gives birth to sin; but sin fully completed brings forth death.”

  1.  Satan, at times, comes an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15. “ And it is not wonderful, for Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. It is no great thing; therefore if his ministers also transform themselves as ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”

Satan is a fallen angel, and he knows everything on how to lure men.  Sometimes we are not aware of the things. When the devil comes in the form of an angel of light, he is as dangerous as when he comes like a roaring lion. He comes as a sweet and works like the poison in our life. We will remain unaware of when he destroys our life.

  1.  At times, Satan uses others to tempt us.

Proverb 1: 10. “ My son, if sinners entice thee, consent not.”

Satan has many tricks. One among them is using others to tempts us. Many times we depend on others and listen to them more than oneself. Satan takes advantage of that and uses it as his weapon.

  1. Repel the devil.

James 4: 7. “Subject yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

  1. The devil tempted Jesus.

Matthew 4: 1-11.

  1. Jesus won by using the sword of the Spirit, God’s Word, each time.

Matthew 4: 4, 7, 10 (each time Jesus said, “it is written. . .” )

Jesus is a perfect example who won over temptation. HE also provides us the solution of how to overcome it. Jesus uses God’s word to win every time he tempted. God gave the same tool for us to use and master.

God’s Word – bible verses about temptation…

  1. Jesus tells us to watch and pray, lest we should yield to temptation.

Matthew 6:13. “and lead us not into temptation, but save us from evil.”

Matthew 26:41. “watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is ready, but the flesh weak.”

God always wants their children to be safe and sound. But many times, HIS children are not thinking about it. If children of God listen to HIM carefully and obey his command, then he or she will not fall into the devil’s hand. Jesus said to watch and pray, so we should not fall into temptation.

  1. Put on the whole armor of God to fight against the devil’s schemes.

Ephesians 6:10-12. “For the rest, brethren, be strong in the Lord, and the might of His strength. Put on the armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the artifices of the devil: because our struggle is not against blood and flesh but against principalities, against authorities, against the universal lords of this darkness, against spiritual power of wickedness in the heavenly realms.”

Devil is brilliant and sneaky. He always waits for the right time and opportunity to put God’s people into his trap. Hence, word of God says always to be ready with putting the armor of God. It is the best weapon for us to fight against the devil’s schemes.

  1. Every Christian should take heed, lest he or she should fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12. “So that let him thinks that he stands to take heed lest he falls.”
